I participated in Trussfab for my Master project, a 5-student project each working 2 days/week. The paper was published at CHI 2017, the most significant HCI (Human Computer Interaction) conference. For this project, we developed a Ruby plugin for the Sketchfab CAD editor that allowed intuitively building large sturdy structures.
I was responsible for the core data model and introduced the concept of the sturdy shape builder (based on tetrahydrons, octahydrons).
TrussFab is an integrated end-to-end system that allows users to fabricate large scale structures that are sturdy enough to carry human weight. TrussFab achieves the large scale by complementing 3D print with plastic bottles.
